Viral Respiratory Infections & Post Treatment Recommendations
In light of growing viral respiratory infection cases, the following recommendations maybe helpful for early symptoms of infection and for post-viral conditions.
EARLY TREATMENT
1. ANTISEPTIC
Gargle Mouthwash- THREE times daily (do not swallow)
Antiseptic mouthwash with essential oils such as eucalyptus (eucalyptol), mint (menthol), thyme (thymol) and wintergreen (methyl salicylate)
2. IMMUNE SUPPORT
Vitamin D3 – 5,000 IU /day
Plays an important role in immunity
Oily vitamin D capsule is preferable to the tablet form
Vitamin D is best absorbed with a meal
Vitamin C – 500- 1,000 mg twice daily
Anti-viral, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant
Vitamin C can be found in many fruits and vegetables particularly citrus
fruits.
Quercetin – 500 mg/day
Quercetin will push the zinc into the centre of the cell where the zinc can stop the virus from reproducing.
Zinc 100 mg/day (elemental zinc)
Prevents viral infection of human cell. It is essential for activating T-
lymphocytes (T- cells) that moderate the body’s inflammatory response
during times of immune stress.
Best taken at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. If zinc supplements cause stomach upset, they maybe taken with a meal.
