GoodMix Superfoods - A Super Tasty Functional Food Range
If you attended our Autumn Wellness Day last Thursday, you may have tasted the delicious Good Mix products we were sampling on the day. From the response we had from customers, they were a huge hit and understandably so. The Good Mix has a range of gut-loving functional foods. Their range includes a Burger Premix, Bliss Ball Protein Ball Premix, a Fodmap-friendly Blend 11 as well as grain-free Paleo Blend 13 which are great breakfast or snack options.
Many may ask first of all, what are functional foods? Functional foods are foods that go way above those foods that are just basic nutrition. They provide extra health benefits when we eat them regularly as a part of our diet. They generally contain an extra amount of vitamins, minerals and healthy fats as well as phytochemicals, maybe probiotics and dietary fibre. They may improve our digestive system, and our immune system and sometimes improve cognitive function. Including functional foods in our diet can help to protect us from chronic diseases and general deficiencies in our nutrient intake. For example, blueberries and beetroot may be categorised as functional foods because they’re high in phytochemicals. Green vegetables such as broccoli, kale and spinach are a good example. Seeds such as chia, flax, hemp, and pumpkin seeds are well-acknowledged functional foods as well as nuts and legumes.
The GoodMix range is certainly up there as a functional food range. We know the condition of our gut affects most aspects of our health and well-being. It is now recognised that poor gut health affects our mental health and moods, our immune system, our hormones and definitely our energy levels. The Good Mix range has been created to assist in good gut health.
One of their best sellers is Blend 11 which has helped many with digestive issues especially those with constipation and bloating. It has been formulated by a naturopath and tested by the CSIRO to support microbial fermentation. It is great in assisting our digestive system, suitable for coeliacs, those on a FODMAP diet, low carb or keto diet and anyone wanting to maintain a healthy digestive system. Ingredients include chia seeds, almonds, pepitas, coconut, buckwheat, flaxseed, sesame seeds, goji berries, raw cacao nibs, puffed amaranth and millet. It’s great for breakfast with fruit and yoghurt, in a smoothie or a shake or as a bircher muesli.
Blend 13 is a grain-free paleo mix perfect with natural coconut yoghurt, as a breakfast or as a snack. Once again great for bowel health and our digestive system and contains coconut, almonds, chia seeds, flaxseeds, black sesame seeds, pepitas, banana, hemp seeds, Brazil nuts, apricot, macadamia nuts, mango, and goji berries.
One of the big hits on Thursday was the Burger Mix. This dry mix is not only extremely tasty but also very easy to make. Just add water and some extra veggies if you want, then cook. The Middle Eastern spices really make for a tasty burger, fritter or gluten-free cracker. I love making veggie patties however this will definitely be my’ go-to’ from now on as it is so much easier than making everything from scratch. Plus of course, they are extremely nutritious and filling.
The other big hit was the Bliss Ball Protein Mix. Once again it was so easy to make – just add coconut oil or water and mould into balls. With Easter nearly here, this is a healthy chocolate option. I loved that there was no mess, no need to blend in machines – just mix and mould! Ingredients include cashews, dates, apricots, raw cacao nibs, natural pea protein powder, almond meal, maca powder and mesquite.
One of the comments from several customers was – I don’t need to go out and buy all those ingredients individually and then be left with lots of packets of ingredients left in my pantry for a month.
Call by tomorrow on Super Tuesday and also Super Saturday for more taste testing of the Goodmix Range.
